Thank you for contributing to this curriculum development project involving the collaborative construction a project-based, syllabus-based, teaching and learning unit for stage 3 around the sustainable use of energy.

The project aims to:

· Enhance stage 3 students’ engagement and learning through interdisciplinary, authentic learning experiences and energy saving projects linked to syllabus-based outcomes.
· Support the participation of primary teachers in educating for sustainability by developing and disseminating an interdisciplinary project-based, sustainability teaching and learning module for stage 3 linked to syllabus-based outcomes.
· Equip Country Energy with education resources that can be made into interactive education modules in an online environment(www.countryenergy.com.au)


How will the Country Energy_CSU Curriculum Project link to the curriculum?
The Country Energy_CSU Curriculum Project will make explicit curriculum links to outcomes in a range of Stage 3 learning areas, in particular:
Science and Technology
HSIE
Mathematics and
English
The teaching and learning resource to be developed will promote the participation of primary students and teachers in authentic project‐based work exploring why the sustainable use of energy is important and identifying, designing, implementing and monitoring solutions that reduce their energy usage
.

What support is available for schools?
To assist teachers to participate, the Country Energy_CSU Curriculum Project will provide;
· each participating school funding for 3.5 days of teacher release to enable participant teachers to attend an initial one day workshop , two x 1 hr tele/video conferences/meetings during the writing phase, planning time and a final one day workshop.
· a one –day professional learning and writing workshop be conducted at CSU, Wagga Wagga (30 July 2010). This workshop would facilitate professional learning about;
¾ issues of energy and its sustainable use
¾ conceptions of energy and energy use
¾ resources and technology for monitoring energy efficiency,
¾ education for sustainability,
¾ 5Es as a teaching /learning model for inquiry-based education.

· On going online support using wikispace and video conferencing facilities to allow participants to collaborate during the writing phase.
· a one–day culminating writers’ workshop be conducted at CSU, Wagga Wagga with Country Energy web designers available to assist in design of a web-based resource.

This curriculum development project will be coordinated by Charles Sturt University (CSU) with two lecturers from the School of Education (Penny Stephens- Lecturer, Science Education K-6 and Dr Andrew Wallace - Senior lecturer, HSIE) facilitating the project.
